Why one average for a whole city is a slippery idea
An average sounds precise, but it is only as good as the people counted in it. A Hyderabad average would blend a fresher on a monitoring desk with a specialist who has been testing applications for years, a bank security team with a small consultancy, and a night shift with a day job. The result describes almost nobody.
What we can say is that Skill IT publishes an indicative range for India, ₹3.5L to ₹9L a year for entry-to-mid roles such as SOC Analyst, Security Analyst and Junior Penetration Tester, rising with certifications and project experience. The SOC Analyst programme publishes ₹3L to ₹9L a year for SOC roles. Neither is specific to Hyderabad. Both are broad ranges that vary by company, city, specialisation and experience.
Hyderabad matters, of course. Large parts of its IT and services activity sit around Madhapur, HITEC City, Gachibowli and the Financial District, so a good number of security teams are within reach of one another. That gives you plenty to look at, but we will not turn it into a made-up figure.
Build your own Hyderabad salary picture in six moves
Instead of chasing an average, gather three or four honest data points about the jobs you actually want.
Fix the kind of role before the city
Decide whether you are looking at SOC monitoring, vulnerability assessment or penetration testing. Pay logic differs between them, so a picture that mixes them is not useful.
Sort the Hyderabad openings by type of employer
Group listings into IT services firms, product companies, global capability centres, banks and fintechs, and security consultancies. The way each employer uses security staff differs, and so can the pay structure.
Note the work location and hours
A listing near Madhapur with rotating shifts is a different offer from a daytime role with a hybrid pattern. Record both so you can compare fairly.
Talk to people who work in the city
College alumni groups and local security meetups are good places to find analysts in Hyderabad. Ask about what their team values, not for the exact number on their payslip.
Record what each listing does not say
Many listings skip the pay band, on-call rules or shift allowance. Write down the gaps, and ask about them at the interview stage.
Keep a simple comparison sheet
Use one row per offer or listing, with role, employer type, location, hours, certifications asked for and what you know about pay. After a few weeks you will see your own local picture.
Who gets the most from a Hyderabad benchmark
Different readers use a city picture for different reasons.
Hyderabad graduate who wants to stay in the city
Local listings and alumni contacts are close at hand. Build the sheet early so you know what to aim for when campus and off-campus openings appear.
Student planning a move to Hyderabad
Compare listings in your home city and in Hyderabad for the same role, then think about total cost of living before deciding which offer is better.
Analyst in another city considering a switch
Look at the scope of the role first and the number second. A move only pays off if the work, learning and growth also improve.
Professional weighing local jobs against remote ones
Remote or overseas roles are paid on their own contracts, so evaluate them separately, using the rules in the last section of this page.
Skills that show up across Hyderabad security listings
Job descriptions differ, but these skills and credentials appear again and again, and they are worth building whichever employer type you choose.
- SIEM monitoring and alert triage in a SOC setting
- Vulnerability scanning with Nessus or OpenVAS and CVSS-based prioritisation
- Web application testing against the OWASP Top 10 using Burp Suite
- Cloud security basics across IaaS, PaaS and SaaS
- Incident response steps from detection to recovery
- Clear reporting for both technical readers and managers
- CompTIA Security+ or CEH as a recognised credential
- A visible portfolio on GitHub and LinkedIn

Six modules span assessment, penetration testing and security operations, so you can speak to services firms, product companies and SOC teams alike.
Projects and reports employers can open
You build at least five portfolio projects and finish a three-month project-based learning phase.
A two month internship on real work
Internship exposure across penetration testing, SOC operations and cloud security gives you concrete stories for interviews.
Profile help and placement assistance
We help with your resume, GitHub and LinkedIn, run mock interviews and support your search through our hiring-partner network. It is assistance, not a promised outcome.
When your employer or client is overseas
Some Hyderabad security professionals work for overseas clients or teams. For equivalent security-analyst and penetration-testing roles in mature international markets we publish an indicative $55K to $95K a year. That is a range for those markets, not a promise about what a Hyderabad-based employee will receive.
If you are offered such a role, read the contract as closely as you would a local one. Ask whether pay is set in rupees or in another currency, how time zones affect your shift pattern, and whether the company treats you as a local employee or a contractor.
Skill IT does not publish exact figures for these arrangements, so use the same tools as before: current listings, honest conversations and the full terms of your own offer.
